Bass Fishing Tackle For The Joe "Average" Pescador
The fishing rod is the first basic piece of tackle the average bass fisherman needs to consider. I recommend a medium action graphite medium light spinning rod. I advise buying a rod six feet long. This bar can be used in a variety of different conditions fishing.
As you gain experience you will see the need for more specialized rods at times. I've always used Berkley or Fenwick rods and found to be provided to the task at hand. You must purchase your rod and reel simultaneously. I advise to mount the reel on the rod and holding before making a choice.
Combo rod and reel should feel good. Hold the rod directly above where the reel sits. If the point of the rod should be perpendicular to your body balance in a straight line. If not the coil may be too large or heavy and needs to be replaced by a lighter.
Your next consideration is the reel. For the average fisherman recommend open faced spinning reel. The key here is to match the reel to the line to use. I like a reel contains approximately 150 yards of fishing line 8 lbs.
I like a reel with a good drag system. You have two options for resistance. I prefer rolls that are a drag on the back of the reel. For me, these weights are easier to adjust. Other people prefer to head drag coil at the top of the spool. I consider this a matter of personal preference.
Try both and go with what feels best for you. When you buy a reel you will see a term "gear ratio." Affect the power of the coil. The higher the ratio of transmission line over that is to receive for each 360 degree rotation of the handle.
For line I recommend monofilament line with a 8-12 lb test This is as close to a line for any use you can get. Once again as you become experienced you will see the need for light and heavy lines. I use Berkley Trilene line but they have proven all major brands and found to be good. The key is to match your line to the reel you have chosen.
I like to keep 150 meters from the line my reel. If your reel holds 150 yards of 10 pound line, then I advise you to use that weight. You should always keep an extra spool of line hand. You should also constantly check your line of cuts and other imperfections that can cause a fish to be lost.
