Why is learning the blues on the guitar so vital?
I like playing rock, but my unofficial guitar teacher says that the gods are blues musicians. He said it is good to learn, but never specified (great word = P) why.
I personally do not so its vital whatever form. If you want to practice pentatonic scales, Blues is a good way to start. However, their are tons of musicians who can not play blues and excellent guitarist. One name comes to mind. Reindhart Dhago who was influenced by Gypsy Jazz. I'm not saying that it would not help his game, but not essential.
