Archtop Guitar
At first glance, a tenor guitar does not seem to differ greatly from standard classical acoustic or electric guitar. The wording of the form (usually) is similar to the more standard models, and so is its size. Upon closer inspection, however, a careful observer will notice that only four-stringed instrument, as opposed to the six guitars usually wore. Such observers will also realize that the tenor guitar is slightly smaller than their relatives. Generally, however, is the genre that makes a tenor guitar easier to identify. Although it is now very difficult to determine when they built the first tenor guitar, which appear to have been used by musicians at least 100. Certainly tenor guitars have been around since the first decade of the twentieth century, because the instruction books and dated for the time tenor guitar that still exist today. The roots of the tenor guitar can be traced to the tenor banjo, an instrument popular in the 20th century to bring it to the new style of music we now know as jazz. Consequently, some of the first tenor guitars seem to have been produced by banjo manufacturers.
The companies began to produce tenor guitars in earnest towards the end of the 1920s, a trend that closely schedule popularity of jazz music. Some companies, like National, Martin and Gibson, still exist today, but many have gone out of business or suspend your tenor guitar lines. Although the six-string guitar eventually became the common instrument of choice for most guitarists, tenor guitar has remained a place where jazz and blues and can sometimes be heard in the country, western swing and even the pop music.
Tenor guitars can be acoustic or electric. They are, as mentioned, are generally the form of a standard guitar. However, the bodies of some pear-shaped instruments, like a lute, or round, like a banjo. Both types of body are probably a return to the roots of the instrument. A tenor guitar is about 23 inches long, about 3 inches shorter than the average six-string guitar. As for other features of the guitar, the variety is broad: these instruments may be higher plane, above the arch of metal, wood, hollow or solid body. A true tenor guitar, however, always has four strings.
Today, the six strings is still the most popular version of the instrument. However, tenor guitars have experienced a revival in recent years. Today, of course, rather rare and can be difficult to obtain. Some companies still produce tenor guitars, as Amistar in the Czech Republic, but private luthiers actually create many new tenor guitars. These specialized guitars are made to order to the specifications of the musician. The other option, of course, is to hunt down a vintage tenor guitar. Until the recent reactivation, these tools were considered of little value. This situation, however, has changed now.
